Foot Fixes
Your feet contain 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 120 muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves – each! Everything works together to support your body weight and keep you balanced. Generally, the average person spends about four hours a day on their feet and takes 50,000 steps. Since your feet are small compared to the rest of your body, they receive a considerable amount of impact. That’s why, it’s no surprise that we treat a number of patients every year who suffer from foot pain or Plantar Fascitis.
Plantar Fascitis is an inflammation of the fascia, the tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes. Symptoms include:
- a stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot near the heel
- pain that is usually worst with the first few steps in the morning
- pain that is triggered by long periods of standing or resting
Several factors can increase your risk of developing Plantar Fascitis including age (most common between 40 and 60), certain exercises (including running, dance or aerobics), foot mechanics (flat feet, or high arch), obesity and occupations that keep you on your feet.
Treatment
If you suffer from Plantar Fascitis, the good news is there is treatment available. Your osteopathic treatment will focus on a combination of rest, muscle manipulation and exercises. Rest does not have to mean staying off your feet completely but adjusting your normal routine to give your foot a break. Osteopathic treatment at B Enhanced, will also focus on the manipulation of the overworked joints and/or muscles in your foot. Next, we will work with you on rehab exercises and can also recommend insoles or foot wear to help reduce pain and encourage healing.
Our goal is to get you back to your normal activity, pain free!
