The Six Foundational Principles of Naturopathy

The Six Foundational Principles of Naturopathy
May 23, 2018B EnhancedNaturopathy

At B Enhanced, our vision is to help you relieve pain, restore health and enhance life.  For us, this means not only treating pain, but addressing the root cause of your health issues. In another step closer to fulfilling this vision, we recently announced the addition of new services, including Naturopathy.  We are proud to announce that Naturopath, Akosua Silva has joined the B Enhanced team.

Here is some helpful information about Naturopathic treatment from B Enhanced and how it can benefit you.

Naturopathic philosophy focuses on the body’s inherent ability to heal itself; this vital force is what helps us get back on track after an insult like a cold or physical injury, bringing us back to health. However sometimes influences from our environment, lifestyle and diet (e.g. toxins, lack of sleep, nutritional deficiencies, etc.), can impair the body’s vital force in bringing us back into balance. Naturopathy utilises the use of herbs, nutrition and lifestyle advice to assist the vital force in helping the body to heal itself.

The six foundational principles of Naturopathy:

1) First do no harm (Primum Non Nocere)

2) To utilise the healing power of nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae)

3) Find and treat the cause, wherever possible, not just symptoms (Tolle Causam)

4) Treat the whole person (Tolle Totum)

5) Practitioner as Teacher to support and empower the client (Docere)

6) Focusing on overall health and disease prevention (Praevenic)

A consult involves a full case history of the client and the use of diagnostic tools such as iris, tongue and nail analysis as well as checking other vitals (eg. pulse, blood pressure, etc.). The health state of the client or the presenting health issue is analysed as a whole picture and an appropriate therapeutic plan is developed to support the body’s natural healing ability.

As knowledge continues to increase through scientific research, there is a shift in the perception and reception of natural medicine, where scientific research has and is further validating the use of the natural remedies that have been prescribed traditionally for thousands of years, forming more of an evidenced-based platform for Natural Medicine to stand.
